Caring For Your Teeth

  • Brushing should be done at least 2-3 times per day
  • It should take no less than 3 minutes each time you brush, but it might take more because it is harder to clean around and under each and every bracket
  • Be sure to brush the chewing surfaces of your teeth, as well as the inside of your teeth, tongue, cheeks, and the roof of your mouth
  • Flossing should be done at least once each day
  • When flossing be sure to floss around each individual tooth at least 3-4 times, with an up and down motion, not back and forth
  • We also recommend threading the floss AWAY from the tissue, not towards the tissue
  • Using a water flosser is another great option to help reduce plaque buildup
  • We suggest to hold off on whitening during orthodontic treatment to avoid discoloration.
  • Use of the proxy brush should be done before brushing
  • It should be used between all teeth underneath the arch wire and around all brackets and bands
  • We recommend using the proxy brush AWAY from the tissue, not towards as the end can be sharp to the gum tissue
  • You should rinse the proxy brush if plaque starts to accumulate on during use
  • Proxy brushes are one time use only
